Fjordhus Reivers 3
Highland 2
NATIONAL LADIES’ DIVISION TWO
REIVERS attacked straight from the pass back, creating chances galore in the first five minutes.
Midfielders Morven Cawthorn and Kirsty Millar used their pace and guile to cause all sorts of problems for the Highland visitors.
And it was a result of good linking play by these players that Reivers were awarded a penalty corner on six minutes. Up stepped Emily Newlands and, from a straight strike, smashed the ball past the diving keeper to net her first of the season.
The hosts were generating aggressive and slick attacking setplays, and were unlucky not to score on three occasions before Laura Mclean slipped the ball past the onrushing keeper to put her team two up.
However, Highland got their act together in time for the second half. Within eight minutes of the restart, they were back on terms – thanks to a mix-up in the home defence and a penalty flick.
Reivers now had their backs to the wall, defending as if their lives depended on it.
It was all Highland, momentum had swung their way and the Borderers needed to compose themselves and regain possession.
Stacey Tennant kept Reivers from going behind with a superb 55th-minute save from a one-on-one situation, before the home rearguard was forced to clear danger several times.
Highland resorted to some stick tackles and questioned the umpire’s decisions, resulting in their striker leaving the field for three minutes.
Reivers managed to gain control of proceedings for the final 10 minutes.
With just three minutes on the watch and from a well-worked penalty corner, Janet Jack fed captain Pippa Bell, who slammed the ball into the bottom right of the goal for a deserved victory which takes the Reivers to the top of the table.
