GALA kept the pressure on unbeaten Ayr at the top of the Premiership table on Saturday by posting a bonus-point victory against Dundee at Mayfield.

In a game that was marred by a flurry of yellow cards, the Maroons managed to keep their cool and collect the points needed to keep them in contention.

Ewan McQuillin got the ball rolling in the seventh minute when he found room to score following a catch and drive from a line-out, with Lee Millar slotting the conversion.

Dundee replied with a touchdown from Alan Brown, with Jamie Urquhart doing the necessary to tie the scores, before the hosts went ahead through a Taylor Paris try.

Back came Gala, with George Graham finding an acre of space at a line-out to run through and dot down behind the posts, making an easy conversion for Millar, who stretched the lead with a penalty soon after.

Graham got his second try of the day just before the break with a fine angled run. Millar again added the extras. Half-time score: 12-24.

The hosts closed the gap after the restart with a try from Brandyn Laursen, but Millar notched another three-pointer to keep his team in the clear.

Jack Steele added another penalty for the hosts, but that was where the scoring stopped for Dundee.

Determined to put the game out of sight, Gala raised their game and further tries from Craig Robertson and Euan Dods, converted by Millar, who also added a late penalty, consolidated their unbeaten away record in the league this season.

Gala: A. McLean; G. Somerville, C. Auld, C. Borthwick, C. Robertson; L. Millar, George Graham; L. Pettie, R. Anderson, E. McQuillin, C. Weir, O. Palepoi, Gary Graham, S. Cairns, E. Dods. Subs: C. Mackintosh, C. Keddie, J. King, K. Mein, G. Young.
