CAR enthusiasts have raised bootloads of cash for a local children’s charity.
The Sporting Bears Motor Club (SBMC), classic and sports car enthusiasts who raise money for children’s charities, held their Polar Bears “Dream Rides” at Thirlestane Castle in June, part of the Borders Vintage Automobile Club’s (BVAC) annual Motoring Extravaganza, when the Polar Bears took car devotees for a dream ride around the Lauder area for a donation, raising £2,700 for the Borders Children’s Charity (BCC).
The club handed over the money to the local volunteer-run charity in the Edinburgh gardens of “Mummy Polar Bear”, Fiona Davies.
Also attending the handover was the BVAC chairman of 40 years, David Pratt, Bronwyn Coggan chairperson of BCC and Linda Cormack, treasurer of BCC, along with several Polar Bear members who had driven people on the day or helped run the event.
Ms Coggan said: “The BCC has been completely overwhelmed by the welcoming warmth and generosity shown by the Polar Bear Drivers, organisers and BVAC.
The Polar Bears’ enthusiasm for cars is infectious and they genuinely just love to share their cars for the enjoyment of themselves and others whilst helping a good cause. It’s a win-win situation for the drivers, the BCC and car enthusiasts who would otherwise never have the opportunity to ride in such magnificent cars.”
