When undercover police officers approached a man about obtaining illegal drugs, he said he could get them Valium and agreed to meet at a play park.
William Byers, 34, of Horsburgh Street, Innerleithen, admitted being concerned in the supply of diazepam at the play park at Middle Walk, Melrose, on March 9.
“This offence arises out of an undercover operation which has resulted in a number of cases,” explained prosecutor Tessa Bradley at Selkirk Sheriff Court on Monday.
“He was approached by undercover officers on a number of occasions and they chatted to him about the supply of controlled drugs. Ultimately, he supplied them with 30 blue tablets for £20,” said Ms Bradley.
Defending, Matt Patrick said his client had been approached by undercover officers in the street and again in a bookmaker’s.
“He was asked for heroin, but said he was unable to assist,” said Mr Patrick, adding: “The request was then made for Valium and he assisted with that through another person, taking their money, and coming back with the Valium.”
Sheriff Kevin Drummond deferred sentence until October 1 for reports, warning Byers: “Being concerned in the supply of drugs is a serious offence.”
