SARAH McCormack finished in a superb 15th spot in the World Mountain Running Championships.
Representing Ireland, the Moorfoot runner finished the 8.8km course in the north of Italy in 49 minutes and 59 seconds.
Among others, the Peebles athlete defeated talented English runner Victoria Wilkinson.
Meanwhile, a number of Borders junior and senior runners will be hoping to be selected for this month’s Home Internationals Hill Running meeting after being among the placings at trials held in Menstrie, Clackmannanshire.
Gala Harriers’ pair Kerry Sandilands and Louise Mercer both took third place in the under-16 and under-19 girls races respectively, while fellow Harrier Thomas Otton was second in the under-14 boys’ section.
Jacob Adkin of Moorfoot finished third and Rowan Marr of Gala eighth in the under-16s, while Jacob’s sister Scout was also third in the senior women.
Fergus Johnston of Gala Harriers came home fifth in the men’s race.
