RBS CHAMPIONSHIP LEAGUE B

A BRACE from Peebles hooker Matt Carryer secured his team their first league win since February.

Stand-off Greg Raeburn put his team ahead after only four minutes with a penalty, but Nick Bell replied for the East Lothian side, who suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Howe of Fife the previous week.

Haddington had a try ruled out after winger Andrew Symington gathered Bell’s chip to go over, only for the referee to disallow it for offside.

From a position where Peebles could have been behind, the home side claimed the lead two minutes later as Conor Blyth scampered under the posts and Raeburn converted.

Penalties were traded by Raeburn and Bell to leave the half-time score 13-6, but Carryer’s two scores – both from close range – extended the lead to 19 points.

Bell’s crossfield kick set up centre James Ferguson for Haddington’s first try before the visitors’ second row man Graham Paris ran in from the 22 with two minutes remaining.

At 25-18, Haddington had their eyes on a draw, but a late try by Peebles ensured a bonus point and their first win in seven league games.
