Hawick & Wilton beat Gala by 31 runs

UNDER-13s LEAGUE

Gala Under-13s travelled to Buccleuch Park and put up a spirited performance against Hawick & Wilton before eventually succumbing to a defeat.

Hawick won the toss, elected to bat first and made a slow start with Charlie Edwardson and Jamie Crooks picking up early wickets, but the introduction of Evan Alexander accelerated the home scoring before the Hawick No4 was dismissed for 27 thanks to a great diving catch by Harris Rutherford off Alistair Crooks.

Greg Johnston retired having reached 30 before big brother Ryan added impetus at the end of the innings with a hard hitting 25 not out, while for the visitors, opening bowler Finlay Rutherford returned to the attack and dismissed Bannerman with the final ball of the innings.

Rutherford had looked good in the early part of the Gala innings until a mix-up with Edwardson left the Gala opener well short of his ground and run out for 10.

Of the remaining batsmen only Lawson Marr and Alistair Crooks made it into double figures as the Gala batsmen struggled against the pace of Ryan Johnston.
