Eildon club is on a high

Eildon Curling Club reported on a satisfactory season with good attendances and numbers that would have a few other clubs green with envy, writes Alistair Lindsay.

Thursday mornings (ice time) are almost sacrosanct to to the membership, all this coming under the organisational talents of Anne Fleming, high heid yin; Avril Inglis at the treasury; and Helen Mattheson in the engine room.

The club’s one outside engagement through the season is to take part in the Dickinson Trophy held during February, in which they haven’t disgraced themselves over the seasons.

The Eildon Bonspiel is a great novelty event in which two ends are played in silence, two ends are played using cues, two ends are orthodox, and the remaining two might be any which way at all. Long may this prevail.

From East Lothian comes news from Yester, the Red-Sweatered Terrors whose attendance is always welcome and whose participation in various competitions is of the highest degree of skill, mixed with merriment. Jim Black is in his second term as president, with Douglas Scott at 2 IC. Now in his 30th year as secretary and treasurer, Sandy Boggon keeps close watch on these responsibilities as ever at an age when many would say “enough”.

By comparison with previous seasons, this has been a fairly low-key one, but as always the Jesters are never far away from the heat of battle.

To those clubs who run invitation Bonspiels, a call to Yester will usually provide the necessary players throughout the season. Sandy’s phone number is 01620 810385.
