ABBOTSFORD
THE recent winning streak by the A team came to a halt last Wednesday when they were beaten at home by Earlston.
With two rinks well down, the final score was 73-84.
The B team also lost, 49-69 at Hawick. On a brighter note, the senior team won 60-50 against high-flying Gala.
The Border Tournament preliminary rounds took place on Saturday, and although the pairs, triple and rinks failed to qualify, Colin Hancock in the singles and Taylor Johnstone in the junior singles made it through to the finals day which takes place on August 25 at Hawick Wilton.
The ladies played two league games this week, the first against Wilton, which had been abandoned earlier in the season due to weather conditions. The score was two points to three for Wilton. The second rearranged game, against Melrose on Friday, ended up with a 4-1 win for Abbotsford.
EARLSTON
A healthy contingent from the Earlston club will travel to Hawick next week for the finals of the Border Tournament following a modicum of success in Saturday’s prelims.
In the triples, Barry Johnstone, Steven Greer and Neil Kellett made it through to the final stages, while the senior rink of Andrew Black, George Douglas, Alec Fairley and George Moffat also won through their preliminary round games.
On Sunday, it was an all-Earlston final at the Kelso Rinks tournament with Steven Greer, Denise Kellett, Neil Kellett and Bill Scott (honorary Rhymer from Kelso) winning through against their teammates.
Flying the flag for the ladies at the Berwickshire Senior Rinks tournament were Beat Cameron, Anne Thompson, Trish Cessford and birthday girl Anne Black, who, after wins against Coldstream, 16-12, and Spittall 21-5, also returned triumphant.
