REIVERS Paul Conkie and Colin Stockdale were in action last weekend, playing for their country in the Scottish Masters Home Internationals at Peffermill.
The dynamic duo play for the over-45s, one of four age groups participating from 40 to 55+ in a busy schedule. Their first match on Saturday was against Ireland, and thanks to some solid defending and good counter-attacking the Scots succeeded in winning 2-0.
Later in the day they also played Wales and due to a very poor start, during which they lost two soft goals, they lost 2-0 despite a huge effort to right the situation in the remaining three quarters of the game.
The last match was against England which is always tough due to the higher standards in the English game.
The Scots went down valiantly 6-0, the only consolation was that Wales and Ireland also lost by a similar amount.
Overall, it was a good solid performance and both Borders players are now looking forward to playing in the first official Masters World Cup in August, in Canterbury, Kent.
Stockdale told TheSouthern: “It was a good weekend. We played some really good hockey and the squad is getting better.
“It’s great to be able to play the best in your age group and give a good account, even if the results don’t always go your way.”
England won all the age groups, with Scotland coming second in the 50 and 55+ age groups and third in the 40s and 45s.
