THE Yetholm Hill race continues to maintain its popularity with hill runners, with 89 competitors taking part in this year’s event.
Organised by Norham Running Club, the event took place in near ideal running conditions, with calm, grey, cool and dry weather leading to fast times.
The race had a new winner this year with Hugh Aggleton travelling up from Wales to take first place in 67 minutes and 58 seconds.
Carnethy’s Paul Faulkner took second place in 69.08 and Phil Sanderson from Elsick Harriers was third in 70.09.
First V40 was Northumberland Fell Runners’ Lee Bennet in 71.43 and Carnegie’s Pete Simpson, taking the V50 category in 76.58.
First female runner was Carnethie’s Jill Mykura finishing an impressive 14th overall in 77.36. Julia Connor from Moorfoots was second female in 88.13, followed by Gala’s Rachel Fagan in 90.36.
Carnethy Hill Runners won both team prizes.
The race was again sponsored by Marshall Leisure from Scremerston and their support enabled the race organisers to donate £350 from proceeds to the Borders Search and Rescue Team.
