THE order changeth not at Ayton Castle Curling Club, writes Alistair Lindsay.
Mrs R. A Forrest (aka Bobby) stays at the tablehead for another year, ably backed by John Reid, while Bill Stewart handles the secretarial side of things and Colin Martin guards the funds.
The Gala Cup came the club’s way, as did the mixed doubles.
Steady progress in the Agrii Border League brought the club into the Page Playdowns and that was that.
Strangely, only one rink was entered in the Dickinson, but otherwise full strength was available for other contests, and club fixtures were well supported. At their recent AGM, the Chirnside club maintained the same line-up on the admin side, Gary Beaumont in the chair, with William Davidson as next in line. Andrew Morgan imposes his own style of administration as secretary, while Douglas Wright controls the cash, and quite profitably at that.
Losing finalists in the Laidlaw proved to be the high point of Chirnside’s season, but their commitment to all competitions was solid. As with so many other clubs, advancing years take a relentless toll on the memberships and serious recruiting will have to be done.
