The autumn orienteering season got off to a great start with a three-event weekend in the Kingussie area, incorporating Scottish League races at sprint and classic.

The first race of middle distance saw Ian Maxwell of Jedburgh and Ellie Darlow of Melrose take first places on M55 and W10 respectively.

The next race was a sprint race round Kingussie and, again, Ian Maxwell came out on top. There were two second places, for Kirstin Maxwell on Women’s Open and Pauline McAdam on W60.

The final race of the weekend was a classic forest run and it was the turn of John Tullie to top the podium with a win on M55. Ellie Darlow concluded a successful weekend with first on W10.

Forest league points are still to calculated but, in the sprint league, Lindsey Knox heads the W55 class and can’t be beaten. Pauline McAdam is second on W55 but, with one race to go, she isn’t yet safe.

Kirstin Maxwell lies a safe second on Women’s Open, as does Douglas Henderson on M65, while Ian Maxwell is safe in third place on M55. The final race is at Lanark in November.

Elsewhere, the UK Urban League has completed 14 of 18 rounds and Lindsey Knox currently tops the W55 class, while Kirstin Maxwell is in secnd place on Women’s Open and Douglas Henderson third on M65.

The first local event of the season in this Saturday, September 17, at Gordon Community Woodland. More details at www.roxburghreivers.org.uk
