Gala beat Murrayfield DAFs II by 130 runs

IN A match that ended in dramatic fashion, Gala recorded a comfortable victory at Roseburn Park.
Wickets at crucial times meant Gala, who were batting first, could not accelerate at the end of the innings, but instead had to remain cautious to ensure they used all 50 overs, and Dinesh Tharanga and Kenny Paterson did well with an eighth-wicket partnership of 43 to get Gala up to a total of 243.
Earlier, Stevie Halls and David Boland gave the Braw Lads a great start, adding 70 for the first wicket in good time, Boland looking back to his best until a stunning low catch saw the opener dismissed for an innings-high 39.
Josh Irvine and Graeme Ormiston also looked good at the crease, but the loss of these two and Neil Crooks in quick succession put Gala on the back foot.
Murrayfield DAFs also made a good start, losing only Anjum in taking the score to 69 before Graeme Ormiston struck, bowling Rangaswamy and having Tahir edge behind to Millar.
Shiels and Banks took the score to 94 before the Ormiston/Duncan Millar combination removed him and started a collapse that saw the home side lose their last seven wickets for 20 runs. Ormiston picked up his fourth wicket in an excellent 10-over spell when Banks drove to Crooks at mid-off.
Crooks then picked up Lacey and Robbie Pringle came into the attack to have Ross caught by Halls at mid-wicket. This set up Crooks to end the innings with his first hat-trick since playing for Gala Under 15, as first Jamieson chipped back to the bowler, then Khan skied to Tharanga at mid-on, before Edrich swung across the line and lost his off stump.
