LAST year’s team manager will not be carrying on in 2012, but the association has secured the services of Robert Crawford in this role.

GALASHIELS

On Saturday, the club opened for the 2012 season of outdoor bowling and, although some of the members were at Murrayfield to watch Gala in the final of the Scottish Rugby Cup, there was still a reasonable turnout.

The green was opened by the vice-president for 2012, Mr S. Chrobak, who wished all members a successful and enjoyable season.

The first jack was then delivered by the lady president, Mrs N. Rutherford. This was followed by a 10-end match on the green and despite the bad weather forecast the game was completed without any rain.

Members are reminded that the first actual match will be a friendly against Melrose tomorrow. The team will be selected and displayed as usual so that players can tick their names as soon as possible.

Lists are on the board for the gents’ championship plus the mixed pairs. The ladies also have lists up for various competitions, particularly the championship and handicap singles.

After the green had been opened, Carol Brown gifted a seat to the club in memory of her husband Bill Brown who had been a long-serving member, and president in 1992. His sudden death last year was a great shock to all and he will be fondly remembered in years to come.
