KELSO UNITED’S game with Eyemouth was abandoned on Saturday with only six minutes gone after United midfielder Jamie Swailes fell awkwardly after challenging for a header.

The shoulder injury was such that he could not be removed from the field and an ambulance was called to attend the player, who was in great pain.

The ambulance arrived approximately half an hour after the incident, but that meant the game was not going to finish until well after 4pm when the light would be failing, leaving referee Alan Hogg no alternative but to abandon the match.

Swailes was taken for an X-ray at the Borders General Hospital and released later on Saturday evening after having his collar bone popped back in.

He is likely to be out of action for four to five weeks while he undergoes physio for muscular damage.

Coach Prof Blaikie told TheSouthern: “We were all quite worried at the time as Jamie isn’t one to just lie down for nothing and it was obvious he was in a lot of pain.

“I spoke to him on Sunday, though, and he is quite upbeat about the whole thing, although he is disappointed to be forced to sit out for a while.

“Everyone at the club wishes him well for a speedy recovery.”
