Selkirk A kicked off their season with a friendly fixture against Peebles 2nds at Philiphaugh on Saturday. In an entertaining and hard-fought contest, the Souters ran in seven tries to end up convincing winners.
Making a welcome return to the home line-up after a spell out in New Zealand were flanker Callum Johnston and second row forward Peter Forrest, while Selkirk Youth Club players Jy Griffin, Andrew Tool and Scott Francis all made impressive debuts.
Selkirk’s tries came from Bruce Riddell (2), Lewis Martin (2), skipper Ali Lyall, Darren Knox and Robert Cook. Knox kicked six conversions. Peebles’ try scorer was Murray Brown, who also added the extra points. Selkirk A’s next game is a friendly against Hawick Harlequins on Saturday, August 22.
