A touch of midweek magic from Phil Addison and Gary O’Connor, well backed up by the rest of their revitalised team, saw Selkirk beat Lowland League giants Spartans last night.

The former Scotland man scored a last minute winner as Steve Forrest’s men inflicted Spartans first defeat of the season at Yarrow Park.

A frustrating first half for both teams meant the scoreboard remained blank at half-time although a betting man would have still put money on the visitors to win.

Five minutes after the break Spartans finally turned their domination into a goal when Dean Horribine slid the ball under Jamie Newman in the Selkirk goal.

Selkirk equalised in the 57th minute, Phil Addison stroking the ball home from close range, and doubled their tally five minutes later when the same man lobbed the visiting keeper.

Spartans set up a thrilling finale with five minutes to go after Keith Murray hammered home from deep inside the box.

Just as the sides looked to be sharing the points, up stepped the former Hibs player to steal an unlikely victory for the home side.

Addison broke free behind the Spartans defence before drawing an exposed Blair Carswell and sliding the ball to O’Connor who nudged home.
