Unlikely win for Gala at Goldenacre

Gala ended a poor league run when they sneaked past Heriot’s 2nd XI by the narrowest of margins, with a one-run victory at Goldenacre.

Batting, Gala were soon in trouble, with only Stevie Halls in the top order reaching double figures, as the visitors slumped to 35 for 7 in the 13th over. This brought Kev Gallagher and Robbie Irvine together, and the pair added 39 crucial runs for the eighth wicket before Farooq removed Irvine for 10. After Gregor Mein was dismissed without scoring, last man Dean Moir added 10 welcome runs to take Gala to 92, with Gallagher finishing 30 not out.

The home side looked in total control as Thomson and Goddard added a patient 34 for the first wicket before Dinesh Tharanga picked up the first of his four wickets. When Farooq and Singh took the score to 91, however, Gala’s chance looked to have gone.

Dean Moir had other ideas as his throw saw Singh short of his ground before Farooq edged Jones to Millar behind the stumps to secure an unlikely win.
