Two top class Borders athletes have once again been making the headlines at international level over the past week.

West Linton middle distance runner Chris O’Hare, who recently went third on the Scottish all-time list at 1500m, is one of seven Scots named by British Athletics for the forthcoming World Championships in Beijing.

The 24-year-old reached the final in Moscow two years ago and has picked up bronze medals at the European Champs outdoors and indoors in the past 12 months.

Rodger Harkins, Scottish Athletics Director of Coaching said: “A year ago, Chris O’Hare was in Aberdeen helping us present medals at our Age Group Champs.

“It is great our teenage athletes can see the way he’s stepped up from that level to a second World Champs appearance at the age of 24.

Meanwhile Newcastleton sprinter Libby Clegg is back on track for a place at the IPC Athletics World Championships in Doha.

Having shrugged off a foot injury that has constrained her season Clegg, 25, swooped on a gold medal in the T12 200m at last weekend’s Anniversary Games at the Olympic Stadium in London.
