A BIT of John Dodds magic and a Daryl Burdett strike led to Selkirk picking up their third point of the season when drawing 1-1 with high-flying Gretna 2008 away from home last week.
And hopes are high of going one better on Saturday by winning their game against Edinburgh City when facing the Meadowbank outfit on their own patch.
As well as gaining a precious league point last weekend the team also regained some much-needed confidence which can only do good as they continue their fight against relegation.
Selkirk defender Jason Inglis told The Wee Paper: “We were all buzzing after the Gretna game last week as everyone knew they had played well.
“With a bit of luck we could well have won the game. It’s the best we have played for a while and the boys have got a big lift from it. We have not played Edinburgh City yet this season, so I don’t know what to expect, but if we perform the same way as we did against Gretna we can get a win.”
David Battle and Johnny Watt return for Selkirk.
Last weekend at Raydale some excellent goalkeeping from Dodds played a large part in the final scoreline, despite the Selkirk stopper being beaten by Gretna’s Dan Rayson in the third minute.
Further shots at goal from Sam Atkinson and Adam McMath were denied, and the home side were made to pay for poor defending when Daryl Burdett fired the ball past home keeper Connor Grant.
Dodds again had the final say when saving a shot from Phil Storey to deny the hosts the victory.
