THE GAMESTATION store in Galashiels has not been saved from closure – despite a buyer being found for the troubled Game company, writes Kenny Paterson.
Investment firm OpCapita bought the computer game specialists this week, and announced they would retain 333 UK shops, safeguarding 3,200 jobs.
While six of the 17 Scottish stores, all due to shut last week as the firm went into administration, have now been given a reprieve, there are no plans to retain the Galashiels outlet, with administrators PwC not listing it as one of the saved premises.
In total, more than 250 Game stores across the UK will be closed, with the loss of around 2,000 jobs.
David Houston, co-chairman of Galashiels Chamber of Commerce, told TheSouthern a number of national high street chains were struggling in the current climate, leaving behind empty shops in the town.
