Local clubs start off the season with five-milers

A SUNNY start to the club’s season saw 22 riders turn out for the first race, a five-mile time trial.

Some fast times were set with the top five riders all achieving under 12 minutes. Ride of the evening must go to Toby Dawson. Taking to the road for the first time, he recorded, with a race buddy, a well-deserved 16.02.

On Sunday, the annual Gordon Arms Mountain TT took place with 63 entries. Gala riders proved to be kings of the mountain with Gary Robson, Graeme Lawrie and Alistair Meikle winning the team category with a combined time of 2 hours, 50 minutes and 18 seconds.

KELSO WHEELERS

On Monday night, Kelso Wheelers started the new season with a five-mile time trial from Kelso to Birgham.

It was a damp, cold night compared to the weekend weather, so it was a shock to the system, but it was still a tremendous turnout for the first run of the season with 20 riders taking part, including three new members.

Despite the cold wind the heat was on at the top with the hard winter training paying off with brothers Mike and David Burgher being split by four seconds.

Next Monday is a 10-mile time trial on the Birgham course, sign in at Woodside Park at 6pm for 6.30pm start.
