ABBOTSFORD
THE finals of the indoor singles and pairs competitions took place last week.
Brian Anderson met Eckie Hancock in the singles, with Anderson playing the better bowls and running out a comfortable winner.
In the pairs final, Anderson was going for the double with partner Alan Howlieson against Craig Turnbull and Colin Hancock, but the short end tactics employed by Hancock suited Turnbull and they managed to win by two shots.
Gala BC were the visitors on Friday night with the home rinks skipped by Tom Boyd and Colin Hancock both winning. In the pairs final John Manczak and Ian Ormiston beat Ian Macdonald and Austin Lindores.
There are sheets on the noticeboard for the opening day singles on Saturday, April 14, and members are asked to add their names as soon as possible.
EARLSTON
A WINTER of hard graft at the club has seen the construction of a new changing pavilion and the grand opening will take place on Sunday, April 15.
Members are being asked to attend in the official club uniforms in order that a photograph can be taken to mark the occasion. The traditional Opening Day Triples will take place after prodeedings and the club is looking for as many members as possible to take part to help make it a great occasion in the history of the club.
TWEEDBANK
THE Tweedbank A team was missing a number of players for the final round of the Jock Brodie matches at Meadowmill, but they still hoped to finish on a high.
This was unfortunately not to be the case with West Lothian winning all three rinks, taking maximum points.
At club level, with just two weeks to go before the end of the season, finals of various categories of Scottish competition are in progress.
Last week it was the fours for both ladies and gents. In the case of the ladies, Sheena White, Margaret Aitken, Bet Ritchie and Sue Davis were in excellent form and what was expected to be a close game ended with a comprehensive victory.
In the men’s final, Ben McGregor, Paul Butterfield, Craig Elliot and Malcolm Thin faced Ross Nichol, Derrick Pearce, Neil McNally and Kenny Johnstone.
A tough match was expected, but Thin and his team proved too strong and came away with a 23-9 win.
Friday saw the end of the two-bowl pairs for ladies and gents.
In the gents’ final between Ben McGregor with Kenny Johnstone and David Miller with Craig Elliot, Johnstone made up for the defeat in the fours by winning in just two sets.
For the ladies, the final was between Bet Ritchie with Sue Davis and Marie Todd with Gail Lindores.
This match was also completed in two sets by the Todd/Lindores partnership.
Friday sees the last of the social events of the season take place in the form of the Easter Game. However, on the presentation night – Friday, April 13 – there will be a match starting at 7pm, followed by a buffet and presentation of prizes.
Any members wishing to take part in the bowling stage should add their names to the list on the noticeboard.
Members attending the buffet, etc, should put their names on a separate list.
