FOLLOWING on from the success of the Borders Secondary Schools Cross-country Championships in February, Borders Sport and Leisure Trust held a new event for primary schools at Netherdale, Galashiels last Friday.

It is open to all primary schools in the region, and 130 pupils from 17 schools participated.

Graeme Murdoch, assistant active schools manager, said: “It has been encouraging to see such a positive response. The enthusiasm of pupils, parents and staff was great to see and with London 2012 creeping ever closer, hopefully today’s event will stimulate further interest in athletics, now and in the future.”
