THE Hirsel Estate Developments-sponsored Border District Under-17 netball squad was presented with the trophy for winning the inaugural “Performance Tier” District Championships in Perth at the weekend.

The performance tier was introduced this year by Netball Scotland in the lead-up to the Glasgow Commonwealth Games to enable the best young players in Scotland the chance to compete against each other in full-length games with the highest standard umpires.

Borders earned its place in the top tier along with South Lanarkshire, Glasgow, Perth, Renfrewshire and Edinburgh back in November in a day of play-offs against all District squads. Since then, matches against the other districts resulted in a draw for Borders against South Lanarkshire and superb wins over the other four top squads, resulting in the local girls winning the championship overall.

Captain Jo Pettitt, who recently competed for Scotland Under-17s in the European Championships, was delighted to receive the trophy on behalf of her teammates.

Squad: Jo Pettitt (GA/GS), Jenny Hudson (GA/GS), Susanne Krabbendam (GS), Neve Mclean (WA), Flora Gillies (C), Hannah MacDonald (WD/GK), Mhairi Jackson (WD), Lauren Tait (GD), Hannah Crick (GK). Coach: Linda Nicholson. Team Manager: Lynn Hudson.
