PUPILS at St Mary’s Senior School in Melrose imagined themselves in the southern United States for their production this year and raised cash for a worthy cause.
Oklahoma was an ambitious project but proved to be a wise choice by director of music and drama Kirsty McRae – the entire cast performed superbly and well beyond their years. After months of rehearsals, the show was staged four times in three days, and the proceeds of Wednesday evening’s ticket sales were donated to the Borders General Hospital Margaret Kerr Appeal.
The tale is of Laurey, a headstrong farm girl, who doesn’t want to fall into the arms of the handsome cowboy Curly.
In her attempts to avoid him, she ends up turning to the dark-hearted farm hand, Jud Fry, who has his own plan in mind.
Needless to say, as with all good stories there is a happy ending.
Curly and Laurey, played by Bryn Howell and Olivia Rooney were outstanding and there were stellar performances in support.
Grateful thanks were extended to all who contributed to the success of the show.
