A TRIO of Duke of Buccleuch Pony Club members have secured three of the four qualifying slots for a national show jumping event.

Jessica Friell and Rosa Onslow, both from Roberton, near Hawick; and Eryn Douglas, from Lilliesleaf, have been taking part in the Dengie Pony Club Winter League Show Jumping Championships, which is open to pony club members across the whole of the UK.

The preliminary rounds are held at various venues throughout the country, with the first four from each round going on to compete at one of the 19 area competitions.

Jessica, Rosa and Eryn all qualified in the initial rounds at Blackdyke Farm, near Carlisle.

The trio then managed to put on outstanding performances against tough competition at the area 19 competition held 12 days ago at the Scottish National Equestrian Centre, Oatridge College, Edinburgh.

The first round of jumps were one metre in height and all three jumped double clear, with fast but close times in the jump-off.

Jessica, riding Harry, secured first place, Eryn, on Joyton Gingernut, gained third and Rosa took fourth on Templebready Miss Bailey.

By securing three of the four top slots, the girls have qualified for Dengie.

This weekend, they will travel south to compete in the championships at Warwickshire College, where there will be over 70 competitors from a total of 345 different pony clubs across England, Scotland and Wales.
