FORMER goalkeeper Brian Fraser joined the Gala Fairydean legends at a special reunion on Saturday night in the clubrooms.
The evening had been arranged by ex-player and manager Davy Watkins and among other players attending were Jed Mather; the Frizzel brothers, Ian and Ronnie; current manager Fraser Lothian; Alan Notman; Paul Loughran and Stuart Robertson.
Ex-committee officials included ex-chairmen Jim Gray and Matt Hall, secretary George McGill and fixture secretary Atholl Innes.
While most talk was of the past, when the Fairydean tried three times unsuccessfully to get into the Scottish league, even with the support of rugby star Craig Chalmers, it was also time to look to the future.
The new all-weather pitch is a brand new incentive for players of all ages, and veteran Adam McGlory, one of the oldest if not the longest-serving officials, hoped that the new planned pyramid system would help the club in its future ambitions.
“These days were very disappointing and George (McGill) did a tremendous amount of work,” said Hall. “But Highland League clubs and also Annan have got into the leagues.”
Current chairman Joss Richie was unable to attend, while a card for a speedy recovery from illness was signed and sent to ex-player Tommy Mann.
Watkins said that it had been a very successful night. “It was good to get everyone together and to enjoy themselves,” he added.
